What We Do

Idealists United is working to create a movement that will allow us to move from a reactive to a proactive Human Rights community.  By developing a systematic approach to spreading awareness and action, IU believes we can create a shift in how society views Human Rights and reacts to abuses of Human Rights.  In order to generate this shift, IU seeks to mainstream Human Rights education, awareness and action to the point where the principles and protection of Human Rights is a part of society’s collective ideals and norms.

Creating Positive Change:

At the core of Idealists United’s driving principles is our philosophy of creating positive change.  We believe the following is crucial when attempting to generate positive change.

Educate Motivate Advocate Create Change

Educate and spread awareness of Human Rights principles

Motivate individuals to become activists, support their efforts, and get organized

Advocate for concrete policy changes that allow for the protection, enforcement and enjoyment of individual’s Human Rights

Create Change through unified and targeted actions, we can help improve the current Human Rights situation and how the international community reacts to violations of Human Rights

Our Work:

Idealists United’s work centers on educating, training, organizing and supporting individuals to take unified action to direct lasting positive change.  IU creates programs that not only focus on specific issues, but educate about the value and ideals of Human Rights more generally.  If the public can fully embrace the ideals and importance of Human Rights, we will not need to push people or our elected officials into taking action; instead people will act because it is a part of our society.

Chapters:

A large part of our work is built around our Chapters.  IU Chapters help us to create this movement by spreading our reach.  Idealists United works closely with our Chapters to run various programs as well as support and train members to ensure the success of their efforts.  For more information on starting a Chapter and Chapter resources check out our Chapters page.
